Societies and Future Conferences (Booths 10-13, 16-17) The Marine Technology Society (MTS) and IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES), as the two societies that conduct the Oceans Conferences, will have membership and program booths at #10 and #13, respectively, with adjoining booths for future Oceans Conferences. Be sure to stop by to complete any needed membership information forms and check out all of the exciting programs, committees, and other exciting and rewarding opportunities that each Society offers. And make sure to visit with the upcoming conference committees and offer your support for their planning efforts during the next several years. Visit the MTS and OES websites for more information.
Human-Powered Submarines (Hall B North) The International Submarine Races (ISR) is a competitive event that takes place every two years. ISR #8 was held in June, 2005. Contestants come with a wet submarine, usually pedal-powered with one or two operators on SCUBA diving equipment, and compete in a 100-yard dash and/or a slalom course. The event is open to high schools, colleges, universities, or individuals. The applicants form teams who conceive, design, engineer, fabricate, test, and compete. Many institutions give full credit for the effort. The uniqueness of the event creates an experience priceless in the friendships born and educational values acquired. Student Poster Competition (Hall A) This highlight of every Oceans Conference will include 24 students from high schools through graduate levels and from around the world for our Student Poster Program. These students have written technical papers that will be included in the Conference Proceedings and will present posters describing their work. Judges will evaluate the students’ work, and prizes (funded by ONR) will be awarded at the “One Ocean” Banquet on Wednesday evening.
